Tag Migration: Single Tag Migration
In this video, we're going to talk about
how to do a single tag migration. So, in
this store, we have lots of tags that
have been yet to be migrated. And I'm
just going to pick a random one. I'm
going to pick beverages here. Um, and
I'm going to show you your options for
migrating a single tag. And the reason I
keep calling out single tag is because
you can also do bulk migrations that
we'll cover in another video. And that
starts with, you know, selecting the
select menu button. So here we're just
going to pick a single tag beverages.
And to start off we get two choices. We
either want to tag or sorry we want to
migrate this tag or we don't want to
migrate this tag. So if we don't want to
migrate the tag you know we can say no
migration needed.
And then that beverages tag shows up
down here in the tags to not migrate
section.
Now, if I want to undo that, I can just
select that and say remove from list
and it moves it back up to the tags with
no migration section.
But let's say we do want to migrate this
tag. We have a couple options. So, we're
going to say start migration. And the
options are we can migrate it to meta
fields or we can migrate it to a
category or we can migrate it to both
meta fields and categories. And we can
also migrate it to more than one meta
field if we want to. So let's show you
what that looks like. Let's start off
with a migrate to meta fields. We're
going to edit this and we're going to
just select age group. And you know, so
you see what happens there when we
select here. It shows you all your
existing meta fields that are, you know,
in your system in your store. And then
you can pick from the options for that
meta field. And you can add a new entry
just like if the meta field doesn't
exist, you can add a new meta field also
from within the datafi UI.
So we we picked
age group and adults. Select done. Now
let's add another meta field
just to show you some of the error
checking we do.
Oh, what I'm looking for is is one
that's going to pop up an error for me.
Let's see if I can find one quickly
here. And the error would be that um
that metap field doesn't work for that
category of product. Oh, there we go.
Category is not assigned to activewear
clothing features. So here this
activeware clothing feature meta field
right is not assigned to a products
category that has the tag of beverages.
Now wrapping your head around this can
take a little bit of time right. So this
tag is assigned to four products and we
can look at those products here and we
can see what the categories of those
products are.
So here the product categories are low
alcohol low alcohol and alcohol-f free
beverages.
So
we
we added a meta field that doesn't have
that isn't appropriate for that category
using our category uh meta field uh m
you know to management tool. So if you
see something like this, you can go in
and update the assignment of that
category. So if you want this meta field
to apply to the category that these
products fall in, you click on the
update assignment and it'll allow you to
go in and uh the nice thing here is, you
know, this is a Shopify UI that we can't
control, but what we did do, so this is
where you do the assignments. You click
the edit button and we've copied your
category here. So, we hit paste and it
shows up and then you can add it right
in to that category assignment. Now, I'm
not going to do that in this case, but
we're trying to give you as much control
in datafy to add to the robustness and
structure to your store's taxonomy
um without having to jump in and out of
of screens as much as possible. Um so
there, you know, you can say, well, I I
want to add it. I showed you how to do
that or you're like, "Oh, I don't want
to migrate to that meta field." So then
we remove that
and then you'll see that this error will
go away um once the page refreshes. Now
we can also migrate to a category. We
saw all those products were categorized,
but if you want to change that here, you
can go in and select
what category you want them to go to.
And like I said, you can do
meta fields or categories or both.
And then the last option down here is
automation. Now, if what you're doing in
your store is migrating your legacy tags
into meta fields and it's going to be a
one-time exercise and when you're done,
you're going to delete your tags, then
you don't need to check this box. But if
what you're doing is you have a product
feed that comes into your store that
you're regularly refreshing and that
product feed uses tags and you're going
to have to rerun these migrations every
time you bring in an updated product
feed, then you want to check this box
and run it whenever products are updated
or created.
So that is how you can go in and do a
single tag migration or ignore a single
tag and not migrate it if you want to.
Thanks for watching.
