Welcome to Datify
Datify is a lite Product Data Management (PDM) application built specifically for Shopify by JadePuma. Its primary goal is to help merchants transition from messy, unstructured legacy data—like chaotic product tags and inconsistent product types—into clean, structured data using Shopify’s Standard Product Taxonomy (SPT).
By structuring catalog data, Datify improves traditional SEO and boosts a store's "AI discoverability score," ensuring that AI shopping agents (like ChatGPT) can easily find, understand, and recommend your products in the new era of "agentic commerce". Crucially, Datify operates entirely in the backend Shopify Admin, meaning it has absolutely zero impact on storefront load speeds.
Here is a lengthy overview of the app's core features and functionality:
1. Product Category Manager
Shopify’s SPT contains over 10,000 specific category nodes. Datify provides a centralized dashboard to seamlessly map your entire catalog to these precise nodes.
AI-Powered Bulk Editing: Instead of updating 10,000 products one-by-one, Datify uses Shopify Magic AI to suggest categories (displayed in purple text). Merchants can review and accept these suggestions in bulk, saving hours of manual data entry.
Taxonomy Configuration Rules: Merchants can set up configurations to identify products with "no set category," validate "uncategorized" items, and explicitly choose which category nodes to keep or hide from their store.
2. Category Metafield Manager
Once a standard category is assigned to a product, Shopify automatically "unlocks" specific category metafields (e.g., flavor, size, material).
Centralized Control: Datify allows merchants to choose exactly which of these recommended metafields should be displayed and utilized for each category.
Bulk AI Assignment: Datify features a paid AI tool that automatically generates and assigns appropriate metafield values for products within a category, greatly accelerating catalog enrichment.
3. Tag Migrator
Older Shopify stores often rely on thousands of unstructured tags for filtering, leading to "tag pollution".
Legacy Cleanup: The Tag Migrator effortlessly converts unstructured legacy tags (e.g., "Color: Metallic Gold") into clean, structured category metafields.
Flexible Workflows: Merchants can migrate tags individually, execute bulk migrations for tag groups sharing a prefix (like
material_), or mark certain tags to be ignored ("no migration").Automated Ongoing Migration: You can configure Datify to automatically migrate specific tags into metafields whenever a product is newly created or updated. This is also a brilliant workaround for CSV imports: merchants can easily import attributes as basic tags via CSV, and let Datify automatically convert them into complex metafields in the backend.
4. Product Type Validation & Admin Blocks
To ensure catalog consistency for stores still utilizing product types, Datify allows you to define a strict, managed list of allowed product types.
Automated Flagging: The app automatically flags items with invalid or missing product types.
Product Page Admin Blocks: Datify provides an app block that you can pin directly to your Shopify Admin product pages. It displays a green light if the product type matches your approved list, and a red light if it requires fixing, providing real-time feedback to staff.
Product Events Block: Another available admin block displays hidden backend data, such as when a product was created, published, last updated, and what the last update event was.
5. Category Collection Manager
As a final step in data enrichment, this optional automation tool allows merchants to take all the categories they just managed and instantly generate a smart collection for every single category. It can even automatically generate a Shopify navigation menu populated with these newly created category collections.
Pricing Structure
The base Datify app—including the manual taxonomy interfaces and category management tables—is completely free to use with no recurring monthly fees.
Because the bulk categorization and bulk metafield assignment tools utilize advanced AI that incurs substantial API costs, these specific bulk features are strictly pay-per-use. The cost is roughly $0.01 to $0.05 per product/metafield value, though there is a highly discounted volume rate of $0.005 per product for massive catalogs exceeding 10,000 items. New users are provided with a free trial of 10 AI categorizations to test the system before upgrading.
